The
cancer walk began in 2011 in an effort to support a local family
devistated by breast cancer and to help the Cancer de mama
Clinic. The walk was a huge success and approximately 70,000
pesos was raised. A highlight of the event was un unplanned Pink
Bra auction.
In 2012 the Cancer Walk Committee determined that they would
continue the walk and street party in upcoming years and work on
a project by project basis. The walk is currently working on the
"Mamogram Project."

The walk was even more successful in 2012 and the activities
included a "Pink Parade" where community organizations marched
in support of our efforts, a head shave pledge where former RCMP
Officer Gerry Webb shaved his head to raise funds from Canadian
friends and family. He then shaved his mustache for even more
money.
Pink bras were decorated, lovingly adorned by many of the
participants. As with the former year, the bra auction raised
significant funds for the group.
The walk street party at Hinde and Jaimes restaurant was again a
huge hit. Music was donated by DJ Adan. Thank you. Rocky
from Rocky's Hideaway flipped burgers for the cause. Patty and a
team of volunteers served the beverages.

Message from the Chair - Dorothy Bell
WOW!
As chair of the Cancer Walk I thank you for your support. WOW!
Jaime sat beside me yesterday and looked at the party of Pink.
“We’ve had some pretty good events and parties in our town” he
said. “But when people tell tales and stories about the big
ones….well, they’ll talk about this one.”
The ticket sales were brisk. The Walk was absolutely stunning.
The bras, hats and costumes were…well…unique. The walk and the
street party were in fact sheer joy.
There are too many people to thank. However the core team,
Patty, Hinde, Flo, Anna, Jackie, Yvonne, and of course Tara
needs a hand. My oh my what a beautiful event.
Anna and Jackie were amazing ticket and market T shirt sellers.
And thanks to the many sellers that said “Hey I can sell a
package of 10.” To the businesses that sold tickets; Hinde and
Jaimes, Pina Colada, Petra’s, Vista Guayabitos, Casita de La
Penita. To Cindys Purses for sharing her market spot to ensure
we had amazing sales.
If there were a best/worst dressed contest…. ”Rick’s” by
Marilynn would have won. Too funny.
We all won yesterday. In the last count we were well above the
100,000 pesos dream. Thanks to the non-profit groups that
participated; JBar, Amigos, Rotarians, Cancer de Mama Clinic,
the Fashion Show, Margarita Challenge, folks from the Jaltemba
Golf. Next year we would like to see floats from the Bridge of
Life. We will ask participating businesses and non-profits to
“come out and share our enthusiasm and outrageousness.”
And to Gerry Webb who raised tones of Cash by cutting his hair.
We love you. And Flo with her energy, enthusiasm and pink bra
determination. Adan and company for his music, volunteerism and
community spirit. Little Bobby Butler for giving up a day of
golf to support the walk and be our auctioneer. The police
escort. The Motorcycle escort. The survivors. Gloria and Wade
Dingwall who donate annually through Boobies Bar and Wades
music. Yvonne and team for keeping the books as straight in a
hurricane of activity. Tara, Anna, Jackie, Patty, Yvonne et all!
In the upcoming year a few of us
will be working behind the scenes. We will be meeting with
doctors, clinics, companies IMSS, municipal, state and federal
governments. We want to bring that mammogram machine to our
area. We have a powerful team in Maruca, Dr Lydia, Romy and
myself. Determined and tenacious women. We’ll update you as we
progress.
